Our Lady, Queen of the Knights, bless all the activities of our order. Keep us true to the pledge to extend the Kingship of thy Divine Son on earth. Through thine intercession, win for us the grace ever to exemplify in our public and private lives, the virtues which should characterize those specially dedicated to the service of the heavenly court. Make us always aware that as your Knights we are constantly observed, our faith judged and our order appreciated. Accept, O Mary, this renewed pledge of fealty and devotion of thy servants, the Knights of Columbus. Amen

That serves GOD, the Church, standing up for and Defending our Priests and our Faith, assisting our Brothers and Sister less Fortunate and in Need, by the good works of Charity, the main and most important principle of the Order of the Knights of Columbus.

KofC Seal KofC (1).jpgWhere did the Knights of Columbus get their name?

A: These men were bound together by the ideal of Christopher Columbus, the discoverer of the Americas, the one whose hand brought Christianity to the New World. Their efforts came to fruition with the incorporation of the Knights of Columbus on March 29, 1882.

KofC Seal KofC (1).jpgWho Founded the Knights of Columbus?

A: Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney, a 29-year-old parish priest, whose cause for canonization is being investigated by the Vatican, he has now been declared and elevated to Venerable status in his process of canonization by the Vatican.

KofC Seal KofC (1).jpgHow did the Order of the Knights of Columbus begin?

A: On Oct. 2, 1881, a group of men met in the basement of St. Mary’s Church on Hillhouse Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut. Called together by their parish priest Father Michael J. McGivney now Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney, these men formed a fraternal society that would one day become the world’s largest Catholic, Family, Fraternal Service Organization.

They sought strength in solidarity, and security through unity of purpose and devotion to a holy cause: they vowed to be defenders of their country, their families and their faith.

Like our LORD JESUS CHRIST and his twelve disciples before him, Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney and twelve of his parish men, they formed Knights of Columbus, Council # 1, and it is still in existence today, at St. Mary’s Church, on Hillhouse Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut.

KofC Seal KofC (1).jpgHow large is the Knights of Columbus?

A: The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 13,000 Councils and 1.8 Million Members throughout the U.S., Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan, the Knights of Columbus is no longer just a National Service Organization but a World Wide International Service Organization.

KofC Seal KofC (1).jpgWhat do the Knights of Columbus do?

A: The Order has been called The Strong Right Arm of the Church, and has been praised by popes, presidents and other world leaders, for support of the Church, programs of evangelization and Catholic education, civic involvement and aid to those in need, always done through the good works of Charity, the Orders main and most important principle.

KofC Seal KofC (1).jpg1st Degree Exemplification Team (About Our Team)

Our Lady of the Luminous Mysteries Council 13301 has an exemplary First Degree Ceremonials Team.  Our Past District Deputies, Brother Rich and Brother William “Bill”, repeatedly praises the members of the team after each ceremonial performance.  He has previously said that he feels our team is the best in the state of Colorado.

First Degrees are usually held in conjunction with our council business meeting and the ceremonial usually follows or precedes the business meeting.  This has been determined by the Council # 13,301 officers as the best format for our council rather than beginning the business meeting, conducting the ceremonial, and then resuming the rest of the business meeting.  Ceremonials are scheduled every other month, but sometimes Council # 13,301 has conducted additional ceremonials at the request of other councils and our District Deputy.

Our ceremonial team members are highly trained, excellent performers who have also supplemented other ceremonial teams when requested to do so.  Each team member has practiced his roles many times during team and individual practices BEFORE he actually performed.  All team members are certified by the District Deputy.  The official Team Captain, Brother Hank, acts as trainer and provides guidance to the team on performance matters.  Brother Hank is also a certified and highly-acclaimed exemplar of the second, third, and fourth degree ceremonials of the Knights of Columbus.  He frequently supplements other teams performing all four degrees throughout the state of Colorado and in neighboring states.  Sam D’Ambrocia, Former Supreme Ceremonials Chairman, commented in writing after viewing Hanks performance during 2nd and 3rd degrees in Colorado Springs that Hank is among the top two or three performers in the Order.

Our District Deputy Brother William “Bill” attends all ceremonials and provides informal feedback to the team captain and team members following all ceremonial performances.  The individual team members internalize that feedback information and use it to elevate their performances for the next ceremonial.

Brother Tim, the Prop Man and Music Man for the team, is also our Council # 13,301 C.R.C. & 4th Degree Assembly # 2294 S.T.M. Membership & Recruitment Director.  Brother Tim takes a very active personal interest in the ceremonial performances.  He comes very early to set-up the chamber for the degree and ensures that all props and materials are available.  Tim, personally talks with each prospective member before the degree and works to inspire him about the benefits of the Order and the step he is about to undertake during the Admission Degree.  He also tells recruits about scheduled major degrees in the local area for which they will soon be eligible.

Brother Tim actively searches E-Bay for Knights of Columbus artifacts for his personal and/or council use.  As the result, Brother Tim has obtained several Knights trays with the emblem of the Order that are used to hold the Knights of Columbus 1st Degree pins and the candidates temporary membership cards, A 4th Degree Ceremonial sword and some other items used during the 1st Degree Exemplification ceremonial.

The Council # 13,301 team is exemplary.  We invite you to attend a ceremonial performance soon.

Father Michael J. McGivney (2)

Prayer for the Canonization Of Our Founder

“Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney”

(August 12, 1852 - August 14,1890)

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (Here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
